This Week's Tech Tip |
What Is The Best Inkjet Printer To Buy?
While we do not have an allegiance to any one manufacturer, there are two features we recommend when you are considering buying a printer. First, buy a printer where the paper lays flat in a tray and is pulled up into the printer to be printed, rather than a printer where the paper stands up in the back and slides into the printer. The two problems we have witnessed from the printers with paper standing up in the back are: sometimes the paper falls forward creating a curl in the paper which increases the chances of a misfeed and, since the paper is partially gravity fed, these printers often grab more than one sheet in the feeding process, which also jams the printer. The second feature which we think is beneficial is buy a printer that each time you change the ink cartridge, you are changing the print head. Some printers are only having you change the inkwell, when it runs out of that color. The ink well cartridges usually cost less than the cartridges that have a print head on the cartridge, but the real savings comes when the print head is either clogged up or damaged from a paper jam. With a clogged or damaged print head, your only cost of making the printer as good as new with a cartridge that has the print head built into it, is the cost of a new cartridge. With the ink well cartridges, replacing the print head is often as expensive as buying a new printer. So, most often Hewlett Packard printers have these two features, and we think HP is a good choice. Having said all this, for a small group of computer users, especially photographers and graphic artists, there are certain features found in certain printer that may compel them to buy a brand other than HP or that may not have the two features that we recommend, and that is OK, too. We support you in your choices. For the great majority of people, though, an HP with the two features recommended above is a great choice.

This Week's Mr. Tech Support Coupon |
Free Data Transfer With New Computer Setup
(normally $50 per computer)
Most people buy a new computer, take it home, plug it in and start using it, never setting it up properly. They fail to remove the unwanted, system bogging programs the computer manufacturer installed on it. They fail to install the 30 plus operating system updates to make the computer more secure and run better. They have proplems connecting to their printer, Internet, and email. They only have trial versions of Antivirus/Antispyware and Office programs to use. And they have a devil of a time, getting their data from their old computer loaded properly on their new computer. For a flat fee of $100, Mr. Tech Support will spend the 2-4 hours to make it all better. Even better, for the next week we transfer the data from your old computer for free.
